How to Discover the Real Source of Your Problems
Since Thanksgiving is a week away, picture this scene:
You and your family are heading to your parents’ house for Thanksgiving Dinner. Whether it’s across town or across the country, imagine that your parents (or whoever raised you) have invited you over. If they have passed away, just imagine for a minute that they’re still alive and still living in the same house you grew up in.
Bring yourself back there right now for a few seconds. Imagine standing in the living room (or parlor as we used to call it) and take in all the sights and sounds of the house. What does it feel like?
Now imagine you never left. Imagine you grew up, went to work, went to school, got married, began raising a family, etc. – all in that same childhood home.
Ok, now back to reality. Let me ask you something: Are you happy?
What’s your answer? If you answered ‘no’, what are the reasons why? Think about them right now. Let them pop up in your mind. Could some of the reasons be: your bills, your job, your boss, your stress, your in-laws, your . . . ? (I’m just throwing a bunch of general ones out there.)
Those are all legitimate answers, but let me tell you the real reason. Let me tell you what the actual cause of your stress, worries and problems are. And it’s also the source of all your happiness, excitement, peace and all the good you have in your life: It’s your subconscious mind!

A person’s subconscious mind is a huge storage house of all the memories, thoughts, images, beliefs, habits and emotions they’ve ever have and continue to have. And it runs their lives. So, if you are not as happy as you could be, it means that what is stored in your subconscious mind is working against you. Essentially, you are stuck in the past. Remember your childhood home you stood in a few minutes ago? You’re still there. Now, that’s not to say that you didn’t have a good childhood or your parents weren’t good parents. But, you’re stuck in negative patterns that were formed years ago.
When you read Joseph Murphy’s quote above, you might have thought that it’s just old, inspirational wisdom. But, there is so much science behind that claim, it’s amazing. I used to drag my butt to science class in school. Now, I can’t get enough of all the research and findings on the power of our subconscious minds. It’s so exciting. Not only to know the real truth behind our lives, but to also know that our subconscious minds are so pliable. We can change the old habits and beliefs that have kept us stuck and have been getting in the way of our happiness. We can improve our lives in amazing ways.
So, how do you change? How do we clear out the old thoughts stored in our subconscious minds and replace them with new empowering ones? Well, let’s go back to our parent’s houses. Picture the old shag carpeting, the dusty doilies and knick knacks in the way, the gold linoleum and faded wallpaper. Picture cleaning out all that old stuff and replacing it with new, fresh, vibrant furnishings. That’s just what you can do with your subconscious mind.
